Quick FAQs

Personally, we spent 7 days exploring Malta, however, I don’t think you need that long to see the main sites. Even though there’s lots to see in Malta, the island is quite small.

Spending 3-4 days in Malta is a great way to get yourself familiar with the island. You’ll have time to visit the main spots, enjoy a day trip, and get to know Maltese culture. If you have flexibility in your schedule, 5 days allows you to either see more of the island or travel at a slower pace.

Malta is in the Mediterranean, so you can expect the climate to be very similar to Italy, or Greece. This also means that the summer months tend to be the hottest time of year and also tend to be the busiest months in Malta.

Shoulder season is the ideal time to visit, from May to June or September to October, since crowds will be thinner, prices should be cheaper, and temperatures will be more comfortable!

Ultimately, your Malta travel budget will depend on your preferences and travel style. While it’s possible to visit Malta on a budget by using public transport, staying in affordable accommodations, and making strategic choices about attractions, there are still ways to indulge without completely breaking the bank.

To my surprise, Malta was relatively affordable compared to other Mediterranean destinations. We splurged a little for this particular trip but in the end, our 1-week trip to Malta cost roughly 907.32 € per person, all included.

While Malta has an extensive public bus network, which makes getting around quite easy, we decided to rent a car. Why? Although buses are convenient and more affordable, we wanted maximum freedom and flexibility – we didn’t want to rely on bus schedules.

We had heard from other tourists during our trip that the buses were often unreliable and took much longer than driving. A journey that would have taken us between 1-2 hours by bus only took us 30 minutes by car. You can read more about the pros and cons of renting a car in Malta here!

I recommend using rentalcars.com; we have used them for our past few road trips and have found the best deals there!
