Quick FAQs:
What do you mean by affordable riads in Marrakech?
When I say affordable riads in Marrakech, I’m talking about places that offer an excellent experience while still being reasonably priced. Since ‘affordable’ is a little bit different for everyone, I wanted to provide some context. During our trip, we aimed to spend around €50 ($75 CAD) per person per night—roughly what we’d pay for a standard hotel room in Europe or North America.
That said, the riads on this list fit within this budget range while offering a much more unique and beautiful experience than your average hotel. Rather than adjusting our budget, we wanted to enjoy the nicer accommodations for the same price we would normally spend.
Of course, there are many other more affordable riads in Marrakech that are not mentioned on this list – if this is more your speed, check out these cool hostels in Marrakech!

What is a riad?
Riads are traditional Moroccan houses or mansions that were once owned by wealthy merchants. These homes are known for their intricate architecture, stunning courtyards, and often feature gardens or pools. Today, many riads have been converted into boutique hotels, giving visitors the chance to experience Moroccan culture.
Staying in a riad was a bucket list experience for me, so I focused my research on affordable riads in Marrakech that would offer this unique and authentic stay without breaking the bank.
What area of Marrakech is the best to stay?
The Medina is hands-down the best area to stay in Marrakech. This historic part of the city is full of bustling souks, historic attractions, restaurants, and riads, making it a central hub for most first time visitors. Staying in a riad within the Medina means you’ll be within walking distance of many of Marrakech’s top attractions!
You’ll want to keep in mind that medina’s are mainly pedestrian only areas. This means that if you are relying on a shuttle or taxi to get to your riad within the medina walls, you’ll have to finish the way on foot. Most of the time, the walk isn’t long but do keep this in mind – this is something we weren’t expecting on our trip to Morocco.

The affordable riads in Marrakech we stayed in:
Riad Laila
⏰ About a 15-minute walk from the centre of the Medina, located a bit on the outskirts
🏊🏼♂️ Gorgeous courtyard pool surrounded by orange trees
💖 Friendly owner – she shared with us tips for our proceeding Morocco road trip
⭐️ 9.3 SUPERB rating on Booking.com
Riad Laila was the first of the affordable riads in Marrakech we stayed in and it was the perfect introduction to the riad lifestyle! Tucked away from the chaos of central Marrakech, we loved the calming and peaceful vibe this riad offers. Between the stunning courtyard pool and the lounge area surrounded by orange trees, it was perfect for relaxing!
Even if we visited in November and couldn’t use the pool, it was so lovely and I’d be excited to go back in the warmer months! While we didn’t have as much time as we’d like to fully enjoy the riad, it was clear there was plenty to explore. We also managed to meet with the owner, a French woman who’s made Marrakech home, and she was kind enough to share some tips and driving advice for our road trip!

Riad Bohemia
⏰ A bit closer to the centre of the Medina (about a 10-minute walk)
🌿 Beautiful rooftop terrace with lovely views and a lush central garden
☕️ Breakfast included (though this seems to be featured in most riads in Morocco)
⭐️ 9.3 SUPERB rating on Booking.com
I fell in love with Riad Bohemia just looking at the central courtyard. It’s surrounded by trees and plants, and at night is warmly lit to give a cozy yet stylish vibe. I will admit, it was a bit of a maze to find, since our GPS wasn’t working properly and the riad is located on a side street. We particularly loved the rooftop terrace, where we could soak in the views of Marrakech while enjoying the lush gardens.
The staff went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable, even helping us arrange a taxi when we needed it. There was even a small spa on site, which I wish we took advantage of! While we had a packed itinerary and didn’t spend as much time here as we’d like, it’s one of the affordable riads in Marrakech on this list we’d absolutely return to.
My wishlist of other affordable riads in Marrakech:
Riad Lamya
⏰ Riad Lamya is slightly outside the heart of the medina, not too far from Riad Laila, so roughly a 15-minute walk into the city centre
🏛 Beautiful Moroccan architecture and decor
📆 Riad Lamya requires a minimum stay of two nights – something to keep in mind if you were looking for a quick stay
⭐️ 9.3 rating on Booking.com
Why I was drawn to it: This affordable riad came highly recommended by a friend. It looks to have a blend of authentic Moroccan design while staying at a reasonable price. It seems like an excellent choice for travelers who want a serene, budget-friendly experience without compromising on charm.
